Featured September Artist: Ken Van der Does, A Tribute to Sunflowers and the Human Experience

This September, Collective Visions Gallery proudly presents "Sun Flower ‘Sonyashnyk’ соняшник," featuring the acclaimed contemporary realist painter, Ken Van der Does. The exhibition celebrates the sunflower, Ukraine's national bloom, and its profound symbolism in human emotions and experiences. Visitors will be treated to a diverse display of Ken's artistic mastery, including oil on canvas paintings in various sizes, delicate watercolor pieces, and some captivating three-dimensional works.

Ken Van der Does, hailing from Poulsbo, Washington, brings a vibrant spirit and peaceful aura to his paintings, which vividly capture the essence of the Pacific Northwest. His works explore picturesque landscapes, the daily lives of common folk, romantic skies, and cloud formations, all portrayed with a rich palette of contrasting and harmonious colors and bold compositions. Ken’s art is not merely visual; it narrates the stories of his surroundings and invites viewers on a journey through his expressive world.

From an early age, Ken was inspired by his grandmother's artistic talents, instilling a belief that one can create anything once it is visualized in the mind. His formal art education was at Weber State College in Ogden, Utah, and he further honed his skills under Julann Campbell in Poulsbo. A principal founder of the Collective Visions Gallery and a current board member, Ken’s influence on the local art scene is significant. His works have been a staple in CVG Juried Show exhibitions and featured annually at the Arts Poetica show in Bremerton. Ken also actively engages the community with live demonstrations of his artistic process at local fairs and festivals.

Join us at the Collective Visions Gallery to explore "Sonyashnyk" and delve into the many expressions of the sunflower as portrayed by Ken Van der Does. This exhibition not only highlights the beauty of a single flower but also celebrates the rich tapestry of life and art intertwined.
